The Heart | By Pastor Newton Fairweather
The human heart is central to our daily quality of life. Every year we see a variety of healthy heart campaigns encourage us to exercise, eat right, get proper sleep, have our heart check, and the list goes on- all because we need to pay attention to what is going on with our heart. For some of us, it determines how we live our lives and how we go about our daily activities. This small muscle, the size of a fist seems to have tremendous power over everything that we do in life:
It beats about 115,000 times per day.
It pumps about 2,000 gallon of blood every day.
In fact, the heart does more physical work than any other muscle over a lifetime.
It pumps blood delivers oxygen and nutrients to every cell and removes the carbon dioxide and other waste products made by those cells.
The heart is not only important to the physical body it is also important to our spiritual life. Over and over we hear the bible referring to heart as central to everything that GOD looks at when he looks at us.
We are instructed in the greatest commandment to “Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart.”
We are told “Where your treasure is where your heart is”
We are told that “Man look at the outside, but God look at the heart”
The bible tells us that our response to any situation begins in our heart. David gives us a clue of how to get our actions right he says; “Thy words have I hidden in my heart so I may not sin against thee” David words suggest to us in order to do the right thing, say the right thing, act the right way, each of us must have the word in our heart. It is the putting of the word in our hearts that guide us in the decisions part of our daily life.
